Graphic Illustration based on Recordings

It was a bold attempt, trying to illustrate and record Martin Luther King Jr's legendary 'I Have a Dream' speech, but I believe this Visual Summary had to be created. It was only when I started listening with a pen in hand that I realised what beautiful imagery he uses in every line.

Here we are, over 40 years later and every line still stands as strong as then. Some things age well, and Martin Luther King Junior's Dream sure did.

I've recently been watching many classic movies from the 50s through the 70s to the 90s, and it made me realise just how far we've come. Even when the directors weren't trying to convey any inequities, it's easy to see it between the lines.

We still have a long way to go, but it looks like there's been a lot of healthy progress to be acknowledged and celebrated since 1963!

It's only through changing perspective and unbiased attention that we can see the journey we've taken thus far - and knowing what's happened can help inspire us to continue on this righteous path of freedom and justice.

I hope this Graphic Illustration from a recording allows us to see Martin Luther King Junior's powerful speech in a new way, and come away with a fresh perspective!

Martin Luther King's Speech Graphic Illustration, a Visual Summary based on a Recording

Illustrated key notes from the speech:

  • All men are created equal

  • Not judged by the colour of their skin, but by their character

  • Cash the cheque of freedom and justice

  • Let us not wallow in the valley of despair

  • Seared in the flames of withering injustice

  • Time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation, to the sunlit path of racial justice

  • We will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream
